Welge Travel Report Notables for Paris

Getting around in Paris

Public transportation in Paris

What is the Paris Metro Pass? also named 'Paris Visite' and is it the best option to cover my travel needs while visiting Paris? Paris area is divided into zones, which ones do I need? How about using just single tickets instead?

You will find all answers on this webpage. Paris Metro Pass provides unlimited FREE rides on the transport system of the Ile-de-France region including the safe and efficient Metro, RER (regional express trains), bus (to see Paris from the window of a Parisian bus) and more.

WTR's Tony Transit says the best info for public transportation is on (https://www.justring.com/europe/france/paris/paris-pass/paris-metro-pass).

People Watching in Paris

TWR's Francois Flaneur says "FEW THINGS ARE more French than the artful interplay of voyeurism and performance that takes place at a Parisian café. People-watching is, after all, among the most entrenched of Parisian pastimes. In the 1800s, as industrialization transformed Paris into one of the world’s great metropolises,flânerie—a word meaning to stroll around aimlessly but implying an attention to passersby—was raised to an art form." Beverages in Paris

Our Winnie Winesnob says wine bars and Espresso cafes are hard to miss.

Dining  in Paris

WTR's Carlolta Cuisine strongly suggests a meal at Le Clown Bar - L & D: W-Su, 114 Rue Amelot, 33 1 43 5587 35, but make sure you have a reservation.

A few of our favorites - duck foie gras brioche, panko fried bulot snails, ris de veau and beef tartare.

Nightlife/Entertainment in Paris

The  Champs Elysée has one long line of theaters, movie theaters and museums which stay open late. WTR's Shauna Showtime says the best nightlife in Paris is in Montparnasse and Pigalle - home to famous discos, cabarets and jazz clubs. Les Halles is a lively area, both during the day and late at night.  Shauna also thinks Rue de Faubourg St Antoine is another happening place for Parisian nightlife.

Shopping in Paris

Our Shari Shopper says Paris is one of the ultimate shopping destinations in the world.  Famous designers, boutiques and department stores abound in every arrondissement.  The flea markets even have cachet.

Recognition for Paris

We extend special thanks to the people who manage and/or own the institutions, museums and restaurants featured in our guides.  In some instances we have relied on their descriptions and photos.

WTR's Ernie Exhibit provides information on special current exhibitions for our featured museums such as:  Picasso Museum

March 27 to July 29, 2018 see Guernica

Following the 80th anniversary of the creation of the work, the Musée national Picasso-Paris, in partnership with the National Museum Reina Sofía Art Center, presents an exhibition about Guernica, masterpiece of Pablo Picasso.

The anti-Franco, anti-fascist and pacifist symbol, which is one of the most famous paintings in the world, was preserved in 1981 to Madrid where it is now permanently displayed.

Thanks to an exceptional collection of sketches and archives, the exhibition proposes a lesson on the history of Guernica and clarifies questions about Picasso’s political engagement.
