Welge Travel Report Notables for London

Getting around in London

Public transportation in London

WTR's Tony Transit highly recommends purchasing the Visitor Oyster Cards (visitlondonoffers.com/oyster-card/index.htm) -  A Visitor Oyster card is easy to use and offers substantial savings when travelling by bus, tube or tram in London.  The Visitor Oyster card adjusts automatically to help you get the least expensive price for all the trips you make in a day.

Tony's update on the new Elizabeth line - Heathrow Airport to Paddington Station in 25 minutes.

People Watching  in London

Our Francois Flaneur say the best "PW" is on The South Bank.

Beverages in London

First off they speak English (British), not American.  Our Larry Lager says your best bet is to find a pub that suits your fancy and you'll discover 4 or 5 beers on tap that are served by the pint or the 1/2 pint.

Now you need to know the basic terminology and the differences between lagers, ales, bitters and stouts.  This will take practice.

Dining in London

WTR's Carlota Cuisine thinks the best lunch is at Soif - L: W-Su, D: M-Sa, 27 Battersea Rise, 44 20 7223 1112

Big wine list and interesting food: Charcuterie, small plates (oysters & octopus) and large plates (breem & duck breast).

Nightlife/Entertainment in London

WTR's Shauna Showtime says the best nightlife is found in Covent Garden, Leicester Square, Piccadilly, The Strand and if you're really hip - Shoreditch & SOHO.

Shopping in London

Our Shari Shopper likes Harrod’s, and Bond Street and, of course, but Shari thinks the best is those wonderful shops on Jermyn Street that are particularly well known for their bespoke shirt makers.  Fret not about shopping in London. There are also shops within easy walking distance of your hotel.

Lagniappe for London

WTR's Ernie Exhibit provides information on special current exhibitions for our featured museums such as: Tate Modern

Now to September 9, 2018 see The EY Exhibition Picasso 1932 - Love, Fame, Tragedy

1932 was an intensely creative period in the life of the 20th century’s most influential artist.

This is the first ever solo Pablo Picasso exhibition at Tate Modern. It brings you face-to-face with more than 100 paintings, sculptures and drawings, mixed with family photographs and rare glimpses into his personal life.

Three of his extraordinary paintings featuring his lover Marie-Thérèse Walter are shown together for the first time since they were created over a period of just five days in March 1932.

The myths around Picasso are stripped away to reveal the man and the artist in his full complexity and richness. You will see him as never before.
