Welge Travel Report Notables in Dallas

Gettting around in Dallas

Public Transportation in Dallas

WTR's Tony Transit says Explore Dallas Area Rapid Transit (www.DART.org) – The DART Travel Agent shows how visitors, shoppers, fun seekers and sports fans can get around by bus, train or a combination of both.

Amtrak (www.amtrak.com) - Your connection to more than 500 stations in 46 states. For online information and train schedules visit www.amtrak.com or call 1-800-USA-RAIL (1-800-872-7245)

Shopping in Dallas

Shopping here is a sport, a social activity and entertainment.  Nieman Marcus calls it home, but our Shari Shopper says the best shopping is done in its upscale malls.  It's a good place to get those Western duds for Halloween.  The sales tax is 8.25%.

People Watching in Dallas

Many say this activity is relegated to Sundays and in particular the Farmer's Markets, but our Francois Flaneur found a glimmer of "PW" at the Pioneer Plaza Cattle Drive area.

Beverages in Dallas

Home town favorites are Dr. Pepper and frozen margaritas.

Dining in Dallas

For our cuisine driven travelers WTR's Carlota Cuisine the best dinner at Flora Street Cafe - L: M-Th, D: M-Sa, 2330 Flora St, #150, 214-580-7000

Carlota suggests the Spanish Blur Fin Toro or the beef tartare for a starter.  Share the lobster tamale pie. Your main is the roasted Guinea hen or the venison with grilled baby corn and kale pesto grits.  Dessert is their hibiscus sorbet and your wine is the '14 Walt Pinot Noir.

Nightlife/Entertainment in Dallas

Our Shauna Showtime says the best nightlife scene offers large nightclub venues, upscale lounges, D.J.'s and dancing.

Recognition for Dallas

We extend special thanks to the people who manage and/or own the institutions, museums and restaurants featured in our guides.  In some instances we have relied on their descriptions and photos.

Lagniappe

WTR's Ernie Exhibit provides information on special current exhibitions for our featured museums such as: Dallas Museum of Art

Now to December 9, 2018 see Asian Textiles: Art & Trade Along the Silk Route

The works on view come from India, Central Asia, China, and Japan, with some objects featuring colored ink paintings on textile backgrounds. The garments range from a Japanese fireman’s coat to an Indian sari and a Chinese dragon robe.

Asian Textiles highlights the passage of luxury goods along the Silk Road between eastern Asia, India, and places like Uzbekistan.

This historical trade route led to an interchange of arts and crafts from the Mediterranean to India and the Far East.
